Thesis

Inception, directed by Christopher Nolan (Independent) and Shutter Island, directed by Martin Scorsese (Hollywood) are two very similar films in the way they present narrative. Although Shutter Island is a Hollywood production film, it shows aspects of how it can break Classic Hollywood Narrative (CHN) - specifically it disrupts: equilibrium, disruption, resolution...

1st person narrative - one character is schizophrenic and 1 is caught up in dream worlds: what is real? Style is important to getting this across - are these film more impressive due to style or narrative?

Inception being an independent film it is there to make you think and for the actors to be seen more as artist and not just products of a film, in Shutter Island they have used the same main protagonist, Leonardo DiCaprio, but being a CHN it challenges your mind more than Inception which CHN films don't usually do.
